FORT VALLEY, Ga. – Savannah State managed a 24-6 win over Fort Valley State in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play on Saturday at Wildcat Stadium.
SSU’s (7-2, 5-1 SIAC) nine SIAC wins between the 2019 and 2021 seasons set a school record for most consecutive conference wins.
The Tigers put up 211 yards of offense that included 184 rushing yards. Einaj Carter led the Tigers with 74 rushing yards andd on 10 carries (7.4 vg.) and D’Angelo Durham chipped in 69 yards from 17 carries (4.1 avg) and a touchdown. Quraterback D’Vonn Gibbons added two rushing touchdowns while only recording six pass attempts.
Brian Roberts led the Tigers on defense with six tackles (2 solo, 4 assisted, 1.0 for a loss and 1 forced fumble).Bernard Brown registered 5 tackles on the day, one sack and one tackle for a loss.
Ny’em Bozeman and Quintarius Chapman each added an interception.
Emmanuel Wilson led FVSU (5-4, 3-2 SIAC) with a game high 130 yards on 17 attempts (7.6 avg.) for one touchdown. He handed the Wildcats their only score of the game with a 15-yard touchdown run before SSU blocked the ensuing point-after attempt.
Tyrell Jackson completed 7-of-19 pass attempts with two interceptions.Antonio Golden led all players with 11 tackles (4 solo) and 1.5 sacks. Jahse Patterson had a half a sack with eight tackles.
